Kindergarten


Kindergarten at HTLS is five full days from 8am-3pm.  Students are immersed in a Christ-centered, fun-filled environment condusive to learning.  Maximum class size is 18 students.  Reading is emphasized through use of the Scott Foresman Reading series.  Students experience Circle time in a large-group setting where concepts are either introduced or reinforced.  Individual growth and creativity are developed in Center time where students learn responsibility, independence, cooperation, and conflict resolution.  Fundamentals of learning in all areas are stressed and special projects, themes, and field trips are used for reinforcement.  Our kindergarteners enjoy the older students who are used as "Big Buddies" for reading or other special activities.  Enrichment activities include Library (which includes Accelerated Reader), music, art, physical education, Foreign Language (Spanish) and after-school clubs.
